Sleep better tonight

A calm bedroom for restful sleep

Sleep is one of the cornerstones of our wellbeing, yet many of us don't get enough of it. Poor sleep can significantly affect mood, productivity and general wellbeing — whether due to stress, lifestyle or habits.

Fortunately, there are plenty of strategies that improve sleep quality. Here's our guide to sleeping better tonight — and beyond.

1. Optimise your bedroom

Make sure your bedroom is quiet, dark and cool. Blackout curtains, an eye mask or white noise help block out light and noise. The ideal sleeping temperature is around 18 °C (65 °F).

2. Invest in good bedding

A comfortable mattress and good pillows can significantly improve your sleep quality. Look for bedding that supports your preferred sleeping position and keeps you at a pleasant temperature all night.

3. Wind down consciously

Start winding down an hour before your planned bedtime: reading, a warm bath or relaxation exercises.

4. Reduce screen time

Blue light from screens can impair your body's melatonin production. Avoid electronic devices at least an hour before bed.

5. Watch what you eat

Avoid heavy meals, caffeine and alcohol shortly before bed — they can disrupt your sleep cycle.

6. Move regularly

Regular, moderate exercise helps regulate your sleep patterns. Finish intense workouts at least three hours before bedtime, though.

7. Manage stress

Chronic stress is a common cause of sleep problems. Mindfulness, meditation and journaling can help calm your mind and prepare you for restful sleep.

8. Limit naps

Short naps (20–30 minutes) can be refreshing — long or late naps, however, interfere with night-time sleep.

In short

Better sleep starts with small, consistent changes. Pick two or three of these tips and make them a habit — your morning self will thank you.
